Pre-Worlds Event in Torbole : SB20 Italian Nationals June 19th-21st
Back to Circolo Vela Torbole : after the Grand Slam last month, the Lago di Garda welcomed the growing SB20 fleet as the Worlds come closer (July 4th!), for 8 races in many various and varied weather and wind conditions.
On top of the amazing scenery and tricky tactics defining the northern part of Lake Garda, the CVT offered an efficient organization together with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Pasta Parties with fresh hot Italian pasta served right after the races, a crew dinner with local products, and above all, great sailing!
The 2015 Italian SB20 National Champions are Niccolò Bianchi, Pietro Negri, and Christian Ferro of the home club, Circolo Vela Torbole.
The Italian team took two race wins and a consistent series of top five results to win with 25 points.
Second was the Russian boat of Alexey Murashkin, who scored three race wins but also had to carry a 15th place, with 34 points overall.
Third was the Ukranian skipper Rodion Luka and crew,
fourth a French team skippered by Robin Follin, also ranked 1st Youth on the event,
and fifth the Australian entry Michael Cooper and crew from Tasmania.
The SB20 is a favorite one-design boat for Women teams, and several Women’s teams competed in this event as a warm-up to the Worlds. Helene Urrutti came 28th overall, and 1st in the Women Ranking
Six nations were represented in the top 10, with SB20 Class President Ed Russo (France) taking 8th overall, and Sportsboat World’s own Jerry Hill and Alan Hillman, sailing with Craig Watson (GBR), taking ninth overall.
Teams from Ireland, France, Russia, Ukraine, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands made up the highly international 52-boat fleet;
all eyes are now on Torbole, Lake Garda for the World Championships which kick off on July 4th, where more than 90 boats are expected!
