Nearly 25 boats for Easterns in Dublin ahead of the Europeans

The Royal St. George Yacht Club will be hosting the SB20 fleet for the Irish Eastern Championships on 11 – 12th August 2018. A strong fleet is expected for what will be a warm up to the 2018 European Championships being held on Dublin Bay at the Royal Irish Yacht Club.

Approximately 25 entries are estimated with more than 70 competitors for a great activity around the club during this regional event. So far the entry list contains the usual suspects from Ireland: teams Sin Bin of Michael O’Connor, Carpe Diem with current SB20 Ireland president Colin Galavan, of Ger Dempsey, Bad/Kilcullen of Jerry Dowling, Alert Packaging of Justin Burke and many others as well as some female presence from Binn Eadair Racing with Diana Kissane and Lia with Sarah Byrne.Among them one black Russian beauty from VIS Sailing Team of Timur Sabirzyanov. You can find the full list of entrants here.

This event is one of the few where the Class is experimenting with the removal of the max. weight limit: “Class Rule C.3.1 will not apply i.e. crews will not have to comply with the maximum Crew Weight Limit”, – says the Notice of Race. Three races per day are scheduled with the first warning signal at 11:55 on Saturday and 10:55 on Sunday, no races will start after 15:00 on Sunday. The minimum of three races will constitute a series with more than four races allowing one race discard on overall results.

Competitors can expect that usual fun and friendly atmosphere at the RSGYC. A BBQ will be on offer on the club forecourt after sailing on Sat 11th Aug (The Facebook page of the SB20 Ireland reports that “The SB20 committee have kindly donated a keg of beer” for this occasion), and no doubt competitors will enjoy trading race stories over a few social drinks.
