Flash News: Cascais wins the bid for SB20 World Championships 2020
Cascais, Portugal pulls out a hat trick after a close vote for the SB20 World Championships 2020. This will be the third trip back to Cascais for the SB20 class that loves the site, strong winds and giant swell. Great news for SB20 Portugal and SB20 Class overall!
The SB20 Class World Council has decided to award the hosting of the thirteenth SB20 World Championships to Cascais, Portugal in 2020. Racing will take place the first week of September 2020 and will be hosted by the internationally acclaimed Clube Naval de Cascais (CNC).
CNC has a wealth of experience in running excellent national and international regattas including the TP52 Super Series, RC44 Championship Tour, Extreme Sailing Series and also being the host of the popular SB20 Cascais Winter Series. Over 70 teams from 15 countries are expected to compete at the SB20 Worlds 2020 coming from as far as Australia, Singapore and the UAE. The UK, Ireland, Russia and France promise high numbers with Portugal completing the list with local presence of over 30 boats.
Vasco Serpa, the Vice President of SB20 Class in Portugal and the key player of the local development comments: “The Class has remained solid in Portugal with the local fleet now approaching almost 40 boats. The calendar is busy and attracts a lot of foreign crews. The third SB20 World Championship is a natural prize for the work that the Class and Clube Naval de Cascais have been developing together with a lot of success. We are really excited and very much looking forward to welcome all the sailors and their families at this event in 2020”.
