First SB20 champagne regatta in Solent with Taittinger

In about an hour time the annual Taittinger RSYC regatta will kick off with Champagne Reception at the Royal Solent Yacht Club at Yarmouth, where a modest fleet of SB20s will make their first appearance at this event that has been running for over 10 years.

Over the weekend the majority of classes will have two races on Saturday and one race on Sunday started off the Island. SB20 teams including this year’s UK National Champion Xcellent of John Pollard and a lady on the helm, team Turbulence Too of Natalie French will face competition from three more UK boats and the Russian team Melston of Kirill Frolov.

SB20s will join the regatta’s famously diverse racing fleet which represents a yachting design timeline reaching back 100 years complemented by excellent social programme ashore.

On Saturday night the legendary Towers Party in the landmark property adjacent to the RSYC will feature Taittinger hospitality with spectacular fireworks. On Sunday afternoon following racing, the prize giving and a hog roast on the RSYC’s lawn will wrap up the weekend.

Throughout the weekend the Royal Solent Yacht Club’s lawn and balconies will remain open and provide the perfect spot for spectators.

The Royal Solent Yacht Club have been very accommodating giving the Class their own start and race area will take place in the Western Solent and/or Western approaches to the Solent.

The results will count in both the UK SB20 Series and the Solent SB20 Series. More details are to follow throughout the weekend on SB20 Class UK and SB20 Class pages on Facebook.
