GER: Kiel Week
Kiel Week is the world’s largest and probably best organized sailing event with over 5000 competitors and again in 2013, the German SB20 Class enjoyed some very competitive racing.
The SB20 class had their own start in the “Olympic” part of the event. Racing is also run on an “outside course” for larger yachts.
On the last day of racing in the Olympic course there was an additional race between all winners of the different classes (ORC and One Design) with a kangaroo start system. The SB20 had a calculated start time ahead of the larger yachts. For us it was an absolutely unexpected highlight to show the potential of our little racing machines by securing an amazing 3rd place ahead of most professional teams. Only the Italian Audi Sailing Team on the Melges 24 and J80 caught us after the last mark, just before the finish line!
Full results of the SB20 class at Kiel Week can be seen here.
In 2014 we hope that more SB20 sailors will come to Kiel Week and enjoy this great event with the German SB20 class. We will see you at the Worlds in September!
