SB20 Cowes Week & Grand Slam
COWES GRAND SLAM (& COWES MINI SLAM)
Cowes Week, which takes place at the start of August each year is the biggest yacht regatta on the planet with up-to 1,000 yachts, 40 classes and 8,000 sailors taking part. It is also one of the oldest running sailing regattas. The SB20 class has a unique format in that the first four days of Cowes Week (Saturday-Tuesday) are the UK Grand Slam. This is a 11-race series with three races per day (two on the final day, Tuesday).
Sailors who want to, can continue for the rest of the week (Wednesday-Saturday) racing in the Mini Slam, with one longer race per day. Teams competing in the full week will therefore have two results. Their SB20 Grand Slam result (which includes one discard) and their SB20 Cowes Mini Slam Result (again there is one discard).
Entry For Cowes Grand Slam and Cowes Mini Slam
You can enter either/both events at Enter Cowes Grand Slam & Mini Slam here. The Grand Slam is referred to as the “SB20 mini series” on the entry page.
The Cowes Grand Slam is one of the biggest two SB20 events in the UK Calendar, alongside the UK Nationals. While the Cowes Week organisers handle all of the race management and results we take care of our own Prize Giving and Social Programme.

Competitors can arrange berthing any where they choose. Our preferred two marina venues are Shepards Wharf and East Cowes Marina
Berthing at Shepard’s Wharf
Shepard’s Wharf, is in West Cowes (where most of the action is). They do not do a half week rate , however the class has negotiated a discounted rate of £225/boat wether you stay for the half week or the full week. This is a centrally located popular marine so will fill up early.
Berthing at East Cowes Marina
East Cowes Marina (across the River), offers excellent facilities and we have negated a class rate off £25/night for Cowes Week (minimum 4 nights). East Cowes is more flexible for boats who do not want to stay the full week but your berth will be the opposite side of the River from many of the Cowes Week events and much of the social programme.
Shortly before the event the Class Secretary will offer competitors the opportunity to purchase SB20 Grand Slam branded UV resistant Sports Polo Shirts.
