The Laser SB20 Show’s Her Cosmopolitan Side While Touring Manhattan
A fast boat for a fast city! LaserPerformance has sent an SB3 to New York City this September, a perfect time of year for sailing around Manhattan.
Amongst the mega-yachts at Dennis Conner’s North Cove Marina, Manhattan based sailors can find a new pedigree of sailboat, the Laser SB3. The waters of Manhattan were included in Chris Santella’s book “Fifty Places to Sail Before You Die” and the on-water reports have confirmed Santella’s choice by noting that there is nothing quite like sailing by the Statue of Liberty on a full plane!
Manhattan is one of the final stops on the LaserPerformance SB3’s summer tour along the east coast. The waters off Manhattan have proven to be a great sailing venue and just the reason the SB3 made the stop. “The SB3 is a smash hit in Europe and is perfect for America. The reception in New York has been fantastic and is indicative of the strength of this design” said Ned Jones, SB3 Product Manager at LaserPerformance.
The Laser SB3 is a 20 foot one-design sportboat being introduced to the North American market by LaserPerformance, formerly Vanguard Sailboats. Already a hit overseas, the SB3 class has attracted top sailors from around the world. With over 130 boats competing in the 2008 World Championships in Ireland it is only a matter of time before North America catches up.
