SB20 sailors at Aarhus Sailing World Championships

Today is the official final day of the Hempel Sailing World Championships in Aarhus (Denmark), that sailing fans have been following all week. With the last Medal Races today of RS:X Men and Nacra 17 Finals, the event closes 40% of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Sailing Competition places decided as well as 12 World Championship medals. We look back at some of the SB20 Class sailors who took part in this event and made significant success, that makes us all very proud!

France’s 470 team of Kevin Peponnet and Jermie Mion became the World Champions after tough fight against the Swedish and Japanese. Kevin sailed the SB20 for a couple of years and was 7th at the SB20 Worlds 2016 in Cascais. Ever since late 2016 Kevin has committed himself to the 470 ad here’s the result.

Jean-Baptiste Bernaz, 9th overall Laser Class

Another French ex-SB20 sailor Jean-Baptiste Bernaz finished 9th in Aarhus in Laser Class. He did the SB20 Worlds 2013 in Hyères and will be back in 2019 sailing with his father.

 

One more team who are also currently sailing in SB20 Class secured their ticket to Tokyo 2020 in 49er class – Jorge Lima and José Costa from Portugal. You will spot them at almost all SB20 Portugal events including the National Championships and SB20 Cascais Winter Series.

Overall the list of sailors participating in World Sailing championships continues to include those who sail at the SB20 Class events keeping the Top level of racing and making the SB20 a competitive and attractive Class for professionals and amateurs alike.
