November in Hyères is shaping up to be one heck of a list of sailors!

France to face its 2018 SB20 Nationals on 9-11th November, one of the testing events before the Worlds next year, that will be happening in approximately the same time at the renowned (and loved by the Class) Hyères! French sailing stars will be joining the event, including two French Youth Teams.

One of the top French sailors, Robin Follin, the 2015 SB20 Worlds Champion and a Vice-Champion in 2018, will be sailing with the same crew: Emeric Michel and Gauthier Germain. Not to mention that Robin doesn’t waste time between those victories in SB20, keeping himself busy at Youth America’s Cup, GC32 racing Tour and some other circuits. By now Robin doesn’t need that much of introduction!

The second Youth team is originally from New Caledonia, one of the 3 teams from there who sailed at the 2018 Hobart Worlds: Cyril Fortin, Theo Bore, Lucas Chatonnier.

Another French and no stranger to SB20 Class, Hugo Feydit, ex-helm in 29er and 470 Class currently testing the foiling world. Hugo and his team finished 4th at SB20 Worlds early this year in Hobart, Australia. He is also a regular suspect in international SB20 events, including those ones in France, Portugal and Ireland.

The 2018 SB20 French Nationals will feature an all-Women team of  Charlotte Yven, a 470 sailor from the Pôle de Brest training center. She will be sailing with 3 other Brest 470 sailors: Camille Hautefaye, Julia Colombe and Lola Billy. Welcome ladies!

On the interantional side two Russian team have confirmed their participation, including:

Timur Sabirzyanov’s VIS Sailing team, the 2018 SB20 European Champion, who will be again sailing with Artem Basalkin and Aleksandr Mikhailov. Despite the same winning crew this 2018 European Champion is going to surprise the fleet!

Kirill Frolov’s Melston team, the 2018 Russian SB20 National Champion and a strong competitor in SB20 Class (6th at the Europeans and 12th in Hobart this year, 16th at the Worlds in Cowes), Kirill also enjoys helming the Russian RC44 team Bronenosec.

More on the international side – team from Dublin of Ger Dempsey and Chris Nolan, who will be sailing with former SB20 Ireland president and owner of boat –  Justin Burke. As the fourth crew-member  they’ve invited a local – Flore Dion, “Flore is French so she will translate Port & Starboard for us”, – commented the team in private communication about this move.

At this event we are also expecting the presence of Giamma Paulin, the President of the SB20 class in Italy ,who will be sailing with 2 top guns: Ian Ainsley, the Olympic sailor in Finn class, having participated in three Olimpic Games, and Maria Erdi, a Laser Radial sailor from Hungary coached by Ian.

The SB20 Nationals 2018 will be running at well known for its fantastic sailing area and great weather conditions, definitely a sailing mecca – Hyères, that has always been a privileged destination for the SB20 fleet, having held our Worlds here last in 2013. You can sign up for event here.
