2009 EVENTS CALENDAR
For those of you who may be meeting up with your crews over Christmas, and have “misplaced” the 2009 Calendar, please see attached. A Notice of Race for the Solent Series will be published early in 2009 and logistics details will also be provided for both Brest and Cascais. We hope for a really good turn out in 2009, there may be a credit crunch in town, but we think that the SB3 is a really affordable way of getting afloat and enjoying the best racing on offer!
2008 – A REVIEW
It seems a long time ago that the SB3 2008 Calendar kicked off, in May, at the Royal Corinthian YC in Cowes. Perhaps not the best regatta of the season, with difficult weather conditions, but those of you who made your way to Cowes at the end of the days racing certainly had a good time!
The Nationals in Largs followed, although the turn out was low, the event was a HUGE success with some excellent racing in glorious conditions and stunning scenery.
In July the fleet ventured to Torquay for a wet and windy event! Great racing and great hospitality provided by the Royal Torbay YC, although weather did demand a lay day at this 3 day regatta! Geoff and his team began to show their colour for the rest of the season at this event witha score card of 5 bullets!
Cowes Week was again generously supported by VW Touareg and saw 75 boats battling around the Solent. Fleet champions tried their hardest each day to gain the coveted pink kite, but Match Racing Champion, Ian Williams went on to win the week.
The grand finale of the season was of course the World Championships hosted by the National Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire. A fantastic week was had by all, both afloat and ashore. The National YC laid on a first class event and the Waterford Crystal Trophy was lifted, for the first time by Geoff Carveth and his crew onboard Team Earls Court Boat Show. To read their account of the event, click on the following link, it’s really worth a read!
So, that’s all folks, it’s been a great year and I’m really looking forward to even more of the same in 2009. The UK Committee have worked really hard putting the Calendar together for next year, and the best sign of your appreciation is to get yourselves afloat and put it to good use! Wishing you all a fantastic Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
All the best
