SB20 Class to row Round the Island for the RNLI
On Saturday 8th September, a crew of SB20 sailors will tackle a Round the Island challenge unlike any they have attempted before, raising funds for the RNLI.
Long time SB20 sailor Joe Llewellyn is pulling together a crew of sailors, not to sail around the Isle of Wight, but to row the 58 nautical mile course in a 4 man Trinity 500 rowing boat, kindly on loan from the Ryde Sea Cadets. “It’s great to see how the SB20 fleet have pulled together to take on this challenge to raise money for such a worthy cause,” explained Llewellyn. “It’s not going to be easy, but we’re all looking forward to it and are determined to make it round to raise as much money as we can for the RNLI. All SB20 sailors past and present are invited to join in, so please get in touch if you’d like to be involved”.
The SB20 class is delighted to have the support of Winning Tides author Graham Sunderland to plan their route, making sure the team hit all of the right tidal gates to help get them round. An overnight stop is scheduled on the eastern end of the Island in Seaview, where members of the class, their family and friends are all welcomed to join the crew for what promises to be a great evening.
If you’d like to support the team on this challenge they would really appreciate any donations to the RNLI through their Just Text Giving fund by texting RNLI96 £(amount of donation) to 70070. The whole amount will go to the RNLI and the text is free to send. You can see how their fundraising is going at http://www.justgiving.com/UK-SB20Class
