Record numbers for the 2nd Cascais SB20 Winter Series!
High level of competition is expected for the 2nd SB20 Cascais Winter Series organized by SB20 Portugal and Clube Naval de Cascais on 1-3 December 2017. So far 35 boats from 7 countries aligned for the race. To add to this record number there are two SB20 world champions participating, so the competition is going to be hot!
The first event of the season was held on 4-5th November among 28 boats participating with the 3-times Portuguese champion, team Animal/Mobiag-Clever Mobility of Vasco Serpa, winning it. The Ukrainian team ItParfume with Boris Shvets on the helm, 6th at the 2017 Worlds in Cowes, finished in 2nd, followed by the 2016 Portuguese Champion team Dom Pedro Hotels/Generali of Jose Paulo Ramada in 3rd place. Beyond the Ukranian ItParfume, three other foreign teams joined the regatta, Kiev-based #GameChanger from Ukraine and actiTime and Alisa from St. Petersburg, Russia.
For the 2nd Winter Series, a 3-day event this year, the names are piling. Joining the Portuguese fleet, stacked with several Olympian sailors like Jorge Lima and José Costa, Sara Carmo and Vasco Serpa, are 10 foreign teams from Holland, Switzerland, Belgium, France, Ukraine and Russia. Among the foreign teams there is a strong presence with Evegeny Neugodnikov in team Matrioshka from Russia, the 2014 SB20 World Champion, and Hugo Rocha in #GameChanger the 2016 World Champion.
Between the Portuguese fleet and beyond team Animal/Mobiag-Clever Mobility and Dom Pedro Hotels, Madeira Islands of John Tavares are the big contenders. The Ukrainian Teams of #GameChanger of Julia Freespirit, ItParfume of Boris Shvets and the Russian teams of MST of Vasily Grigoriev and Matrioshka of Natalia Kravets, lead the charging foreign pack that will challenge the locals. Other teams like local Patris Global Markets of Vasco Passanha with Olympian Diana Neves onboard or Hugo Feydit, top 10 European sailor in 470 from France, can surprise.
It is going to be an exciting weekend in Cascais packed with high level of competition in the Class. The weather forecast is looking great with North-East to Easterly winds ranging from 8 to 20 Knots.
