NED: Medemblik, Medemblik, Medemblik

In October 2010 we ran our first Medemblik SB3 regatta.  With 18 boats from 5 different countries it was a good international regatta. For the foreign boats it was an ideal chance of testing the water of Medemblik for the European Championship which will be held here in 2012.

With regard to circumstances it was a perfect weekend. We had wind and a nice autumn sun! The English team Xcellent with quartermaster John Pollard has put down a fantastic score of only first place and became therefore uncontested the class champion. Dutch champion Paul Gast (Equale) with its crew have become National Champion.

After three days and 10 starts the scoreboard was:
1. GBR 3048 Pollard
2. NED 3441 Gast
3. GBR 3542 Littlejohn

This year we will end the season again in Medemblik. So if you wan’t to warm up for the 2012 Europeans you will be more than welcome in 2011. The regatta is scheduled this year from 7-9 October. And the Dutch will take care of a well organized social program.
Good racing
Medemblik is not some random venue. The Regatta Center is home to the Dutch Olympic teams, and one of the ISAF 09-10 sailing worldcup venues! It is situated on the IJsselmeer, which has a large body of fresh water, non tidal, free of commercial shipping and other hazards. The IJsselmeer has favorable wind conditions, and pleasant temperatures in first week of September.

Easy to get and stay there
The Olympic regatta center venue is close to the picturesque historic village Medemblik (nice if you bring over the family). There is plenty accommodation available in town and in nearby holiday home park or camping.
Dates to remember and to block in your agenda:
• 7-9 October 2011 (Dutch Nationals)
• 1 – 7 September 2012 (Europeans)
See you all in Medemblik!
