Another tough and great day 2 of SB20 Cascais Winter Series!
Sweet weather today with sunny skies and gentle temperatures for the 2nd day of the SB20 Cascais Winter Series. The day started with nice 12 knots of easterly breeze but as it is normal with these conditions as the time passes and the day gets warmer the breeze starts fading and playing its tricks.
The day was about team ITParfume of Anatoli Petrov with 470 Olympian Boris Shvets and 2013 runner up at the 470 Junior Worlds Anna Kyselovaon board. Solid performance with two bullets on the two races sailed today. They just took the lead on both and left everybody else fighting between themselves. With these results they took the top spot at the result table. Way to go guys! Congratulations!
Second place on the first race went to Vasco Passanha of Team Patris. A great start on the favored left pin and a first strong upwind leg on the same side of the course that they smartly managed gave another great result to this local team. The podium on this race was closed by Team #GameChanger of Julia Freespirit, from Ukraine, with Portuguese 470 Bronze Medalist in Atlanta and 2016 SB20 World Champion Hugo Rochacalling the tactics. Beautiful sailing climbing from 9th on the first mark to 3rd at the finnish. This team are “semi-locals” as they are in its second season in Cascais.
On the second race of the day second place went to team Animal /Mobiag/SailCascais of Vasco Serpa. They round first mark fifths and slowly climbed up along the race. Madeira Islands found its pace again after a disappointing first race on the day and finished 3rd. The third race of the day was cancelled as wind was fading and becoming uncertain.
Antonio Barros, ToZé for the friends, and the president of the SB20 Portugal looks happy, “It’s great satisfaction to see such a great fleet sailing in our class here in Portugal. Everybody is having a great time, either on the water competing and enjoying the amazing sailing conditions here and out of it as Cascais is just a great place” he said. We know that this doesn’t come together without work, “Well yes, we have been putting a great amount of work on the class, putting up a nice calendar of regattas, making the class appealing and promoting it nationally and to foreign teams. It’s happening but we are aware we have to keep working. We want more” He laughed.
Tomorrow another 3 races are expected on pretty much the same conditions as today. Everything is open. Let the best team take it. Good Luck Sailors!
